On His First Album - "Can't Let Go"

"Can't Let Go," Vattimo's 18-month labor of love, began with him composing and creating synth bass and loop driven sketch recordings in his home studio in Collegeville, PA. He gathered many of the region's top jazz musicians and ultimately headed to Jonesborough, Tennessee to work alongside Grammy nominated engineer Martin Walters, who has added his engineering and Surround Sound expertise on projects by Spyro Gyra, Joe McBride and Ladysmith Black Mambazo.



The keyboardist's focused efforts are quickly paying off with both critical acclaim for the project and airplay for several tracks. The first single is the high spirited, energetic drive-time tune "To New York," an uplifting ode to one of Vattimo's favorite cities. Vattimo's array of inspiration runs deep, from the time he has spent on the beautiful Hawaiian Island of Kauai (the wistful and balmy "Na Pali Coast") to the loss of a dear friend ("Farewell," which begins in a meditative melancholy mood but ends with a hopeful twist).

Explaining the unique mix of jazz styles and influences which drive the unique flow of "Can't Let Go," Vattimo says, "I've always written my own music and it's exciting to finally record an album that's well produced, sounds great and really lets people know who I am as a composer, musician and artist on my own terms. The piano voicing, harmony and chordal structure of the pieces on 'Can't Let Go' are very reflective of straight ahead jazz, but there is always that undercurrent of melodic, funky vibe."
